The intersection of language, culture, sustainability and justice is central to meeting today’s challenges. In the Global Sustainability and Justice Studies program, you will learn about how these building blocks of society are impacted by people, places and power. Through this program, you will gain greater insight into the challenges that are created as these interests collide as well as how to address cultural, social and environmental challenges on both local and global levels.

Promoting Just Communities

The coursework offers an interdisciplinary and holistic education in examining processes and systems through the lens of social justice. Each student will choose one of four concentrations beyond the core curriculum of the program.

The four Global Sustainability and Justice Studies concentrations are:

  • Peace, advocacy and justice
  • Environmental studies
  • Global public health
  • Sustainable management

Each concentration will allow you to focus more deeply on your area of interest and work with a vibrant, interactive and intercultural community. Through this community, you’ll gain the knowledge you need to investigate the roles and responsibilities of both the individual and the community in these social processes. You will also begin to understand the challenges that face society and acquire the skills to develop and communicate solutions to those challenges to help transform the world with the ultimate aim of promoting peaceful and just communities through deeper cultural understanding.
